Hansiatic Launch of the 77m Smerelda Super yacht

I was fortunate to be invited to the launch of a new Super Yacht built by Hansiatic Marine this morning and was very pleased to be there to see their latest creation.

77m long, 2.5 years in the making, the longest aluminium yacht to be built in the Southern Hemisphere and 550,000 man hours!

The launch facility is located down at the AMC and it is a floating dock. The vessel is rolled onto the dock by way of a multi wheeled transporter and then the dock is flooded to launch the boat.

Another testament to the capabilities of shipbuilding in this state!

The last shot is a bit of an experiment with a HDR treatment that I quite like!

  1. They build them on Spec Merv. The Owner is a wealthy European so he will take it over there and use it for a while and wait for a buyer to come along.

They have successfully sold 2 others using this format.

    1. Hi Armand…as it turns out the Owner has requested more images from me after I sent him the HDR version! Funny that eh! Jamie, this yacht was built by Hanseatic and when its finished it will go to Europe so no scope to get any maintenance unfortunately…but the thought is sound. We are hoping to entice some more Super Yachts down to our new location to do service work on them for sure!

  2. Mate I love those shots from the bow. Really great perspective. Sounds like the trick is to try and lock in maintenance contracts while you still have one of these in your factory.
