All in a day at Rotto

Start the engines, ropes off, pull out of the pen and turn for Rottnest, like we have done so many times before.

The tranquil feel to the sailing club has us all with an air of anticipation.

The swell forecast is showing 2m and the winds are light and as we get closer to Rottnest the swell lines start appearing confirming that there is at least some swell.

Our selected surf break for the day is Stricklands on the South Side of Rottnest. We paddle into the break and the manoeuvring begins. The sets start coming and soon it is time to pull into the first wave.

In between sets we chat amongst ourselves and solve the problems of the world…I chatted to one guy who was a pro diver and who had just been on a stint for 10 day diving at 300m!

What a great way to spend the day and after 3 and a half hours in the water and have expend all reserves of energy, we cruised off to Parker Point for a well deserved lunch in amongst the beautiful green waters of Parker Point.

….that was my Saturday!

Birds of the Sea

Flemming Bo Jensen, Greg Taylor and I had a great day out today swimming with Seals at the back of Rottnest and exploring underwater caves. We were trialling a new Ikelite housing lent to us for testing by my big buddy Glenn Murray! Thanks Glenn…it works a treat!

They look to me like birds of the sea and are so graceful and curious. They came in and played with us for about half an hour, but when it was my turn to swim with them they ran away!

Flemming had a great day out and could not believe what he had just done, especially considering a few years ago he could barely swim! Quite an achievement for sure!

Farewell to Flemming Bo Jensen on the 29th of March

For those of you who know Flemming Bo Jensen aka Flembot, Flembotaruny, International Man of Mystery and Sven, he has just advised me that he will be leaving Perth on the 2nd of April, so I thought it might be nice to have a bit of a get together to wish him farewell.

He is off back to Denmark to put down some roots after 3 years of travel, so it maybe a while before we see him back here.

I suggest we meet at Little Creatures at Mews Road in Fremantle at about 1800 hrs on Thursday the 29th of March for a few drinks and then we could also have a meal there if anyone would like to.

Charlene is also having an exhibition there on that evening called Tugboat Dreaming so it will be great to see what Charlene has been up to.

It will be a good chance to catch up with a few crew as well!

Until then………

The rebirth of the Harrietta

After 10 months of total refit, the Harrietta, owned by Bhagwan Marine, is now back in service and has been brought back to an as new condition

I shot a timelapse sequence of the final outfit and the launch which has just been edited and posted on Vimeo by Flemming Bo Jensen.

There were some long hours in those final weekends and even for yours truly who was on the end of the high pressure washer on the anchor chain you will see getting fed back into the chain lockers.

Thanks for the editing Flemming!
